Brief History

REM – International Engineering Journal (formerly REM – Revista Escola de Minas) is South America’s leading technical journal in the mining and metallurgical sector. It was founded in January 1936 by students at the Ouro Preto School of Mines and, since then, has specialized in publishing technical and scientific articles in the fields of Civil Engineering, Geology, Metallurgy & Materials, Mining, and Mechanics & Energy. REM is currently an official publication of the Gorceix Foundation.

Compliance with Open Science

Since 2001, REM has been part of the SciELO Brazil Collection, becoming part of Open Science publications. The Open Science movement proposes guidelines for collaborative, shared, and public scientific practice, allowing free access to all published articles in all areas of knowledge covered by the journal.

In accordance with Open Science guidelines, REM adopts a series of practices, such as the open access policy, the code of good practice for editors, reviewers, and authors, and the use of social networks to disseminate published works.

REM encourages the sharing of analysis data sets, instruments, statistical analysis scripts, scripts, and additional materials made available in trusted open online repositories if they cannot be published in the work itself, and this

information must be indicated in the manuscript. Consequently, articles reporting research must indicate and reference the availability of the content underlying the research and the results obtained. REM requires the precise indication of the role of each author in articles with multiple authors.

REM encourages the publication of preprint articles on public platforms, such as Preprints, SciELO Preprints, and EmeRI, so that, where appropriate, they can be discussed openly before being published.

This journal follows the Gold Open Access model. Form on compliance with Open Science

REM

REM – International Engineering Journal is the first technical journal in the mining and metallurgical sector in South America, founded in January 1936 by students at the Ouro Preto School of Mines.

One of the factors that demonstrates the importance of REM is the number of visits to its website, around 4.3 million viewers, with some articles receiving up to 170,000 visits.

REM follows the standards defined in the SciELO Digital Preservation Policy Program.

Focus and Scope

The objective of REM is to serve as a means of publication for original and technical-scientific works by national and foreign researchers in those areas. Original contributions (articles and letters) are accepted, as well as review articles. REM will accept articles from the following areas of engineering:
  • Civil Engineering
  • Geosciences
  • Petroleum and Energy
  • Metallurgy, Materials, and Mechanics
  • Mining
